Minecraft on Android

Install official Minecraft on an Android phone or tablet, tune touch controls, and play a world offline.

On Android, Minecraft is the Bedrock game in the Play Store. It used to be called Pocket Edition. The name on the icon is now simply Minecraft, and it receives the same drops as other Bedrock devices, including Wilderness Bound.

Install from Google Play

  1. Open Play Store and search for Minecraft.
  2. Check that the developer is Mojang.
  3. Buy or install, depending on whether the account already owns it.
  4. Open the game and sign in with a Microsoft account.
  5. Allow updates so hotfixes such as 26.52 can reach the phone.

Make touch controls livable

  • In settings, open touch controls and drag buttons away from the corners you actually use.
  • Increase the size of the jump and sneak buttons if you keep missing them.
  • A Bluetooth controller removes the on-screen cluster entirely.
  • Lower render distance before you lower your expectations of the phone.

Offline play

Once the game and a world are on the device, Survival and Creative do not need a signal. Multiplayer, Realms, and the Marketplace do. If you travel, start the world once while you still have a connection so the files are local.
