Minecraft on consoles

Play Minecraft on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch with a controller, local co-op, and official updates.

Consoles run Bedrock with a controller and a television. The purchase lives on the PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo account you used, and updates come from that console's store.

What console play is good at

  • A controller layout that does not cover the picture.
  • Local co-op on systems that advertise split-screen or shared-screen play. Check your console's listing, because the details differ.
  • Cross-play with other Bedrock players, including phones, when the accounts allow multiplayer.
  • The same Wilderness Bound content as other Bedrock devices once the console store approves the patch.

Install

  1. Open the console store and search for Minecraft.
  2. Buy the edition from Mojang's listing, not a currency bundle that pretends to be the game.
  3. Sign in to a Microsoft account inside Minecraft if you want cross-play or the Marketplace.
  4. Install updates before you start a world you plan to keep.

A console copy does not automatically install the Android or iOS app. Those are separate store purchases unless a current offer says otherwise.
