Trees are the first renewable in a new world and the reason a base stops looking like a quarry. Leaves drop saplings. You plant the sapling on a dirt block.
What a sapling needs
- A dirt, grass, or similar soil block under it.
- Light. A torch beside a sapling is enough at night if the trunk has clear sky or a high ceiling.
- Room. Oak is forgiving. Spruce and jungle saplings want more air and, for the large shapes, a 2 by 2 planting.
- Time, or bone meal.
Bone meal
Bone meal from bones can force a growth tick. It is not a guarantee on every click. If the sapling pops off or does nothing, it is short of space or light, not short of clicks. Stand back so the new leaves do not grow through your face.
Poplar, the new one
Wilderness Bound added poplar trees in the Dappled Forest. Their saplings grow into red, orange, or yellow trees without you choosing the color. Shelf mushrooms like to sit on the wood. The expedition guide covers finding the biome.
