A trip through the Dappled Forest

Poplar trees, bouncing mushrooms, and a camp someone else started.

Wilderness Bound, stable since 15 September 2026 on Java 26.3 and Bedrock 26.50, added a forest that looks like late autumn even when the calendar does not. It shows up near cold biomes. If you are in snow or a taiga, walk the edge rather than the middle of the map.

What you are looking at

  • Poplar trunks with red, orange, or yellow leaves. One sapling can become any of the three.
  • Shelf mushrooms on the wood. Small ones bone-meal into large ones and feel slightly springy.
  • Red shrubs in patches. Bone meal can spread them to a neighbor block.
  • An abandoned camp variant dressed for this biome, plus camps in many other forests.

What to bring

  1. A bed or the materials for a straw bed, if you want to try the new camp furniture.
  2. Shears or an axe, depending on whether you want leaves or logs.
  3. Food. The camps have loot, not a restaurant.
  4. A map. The pretty part is also the part where you get turned around.
  5. Empty inventory space before you open every barrel.

Cushions craft from wool slabs and give you a seat that is not a chair block from a mod. Place one on a flat face, sit, and leave it. They break if the block under them goes away, and pistons will not politely relocate them.

Take a cutting

Leave with saplings and a shelf mushroom. A Dappled Forest you planted next to your base is easier to revisit than the one you found at the edge of a cold biome.
